Refurbishment of Existing Cricket Pavilion
4D Architects Studio were approached in early 2021 to assist a local cricket club with the refurbishment of their pavilion/ clubhouse. The existing social space lacked natural light and did not connect with the cricket pitch itself. Within the initial meeting it was clear the club did not have the funds to undertake their ambitious plans in one phase, it was therefore important that we provided an overall masterplan for the club, to allow the scheme to be broken down into small manageable phases that would not compromise future works.
Phase 1 was completed prior to the 2022 cricket season and involved relocating the bar to the opposite side of the space. This allowed a larger bar area which in turn allowed the space to connect with the cricket field due to new aspect and increased front elevation allowing a greater expanse of glass. In order to further open up the existing social space major structural works were undertaken to remove existing supports.
As soon as the 2022 cricket season finished the club made use of the increased revenue the new bar had produced by completing phase 2, which involved the installation of 2 new bifold doors and a set of large double doors to the principle elevation. The final phase, a large veranda, providing an increased overspill area from the new social space is intended to be complete the 2023 and should secure the long term sustainability of the club by providing increased venue, through higher profile functions.
