47 Unit Affordable Housing Development
The site is located on the edge of Lostwithiel in Cornwall and consists of a residential development of 47 affordable family dwellings for a local Registered Housing Provider with a mix of house types. The scheme benefitted from an outline consent for up to 50 dwellings and we were appointed to produce and submit a reserved matters application and oversee the construction through to completion on site.
The site is particularly challenging due to the extreme topography with half of the site on a 1 in 5 gradient. This challenge largely informed the final layout, arrangement of the site and the dwellings themselves. The layout has been designed to be reflective of its rural surroundings and the topography of the site with a number of the dwellings being split and stepped level.
The dwellings have been designed to follow the vernacular of Lostwithiel and the wider context of Cornwall while providing elements of contemporary design. A simple yet complimentary palette of materials has been selected to ensure the design is in keeping with its context.
The scheme is currently coming to the end of the Reserved Matters planning process with approval expected early 2021.
